Sport PEI has engaged with Will Russell and the team from Sport Law to offer a series of webinars and workshops focused on good governance practices. The overarching objective of these sessions is to help our members to understand their legal obligations and to support a shift to governance best practices.

Online and in-person workshops will address the following topics:

  • Governance Best practices and navigating the bylaw amendment process
    • Key elements of effective Board and Member meetings
    • Developing and maintaining strong policies and procedures
    • Election and nominations process

A two-day IN-PERSON workshop will be held at the Royalty Centre (Sport PEI). The focus of the workshops will be addressing practical elements and how sports can effectively modernize their operations to reflect the needs and realizes of governing modern sport organizations. The workshop will also discuss key common challenges faced by sport organizations as they move through the bylaw amendment process.

Session 1: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Overview of the Canadian Sport Code of Governance and the bylaw amendment process
Session 2: 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm – Avoiding Procedural Pitfalls – Open discussion of the governance challenges (and opportunities) facing provincial sport organizations.

May 23
9:00 am – 3:00 pm – Workshop addressing common governance issues and reviewing PSO bylaws.

• Guideline for implementation of bylaw amendments, including a draft project plan.
