PEI Senior Islanders Baseball
September 2026 – The PEI Senior Islanders Baseball Team continued its remarkable run of success in 2026, capturing its fourth consecutive New Brunswick Senior Baseball League (NBSBL) championship. The Islanders defeated the Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen in five games in the league final, winning Game 5 by a score of 6-2 to secure another league banner. The championship adds another chapter to one of the most successful stretches in Islanders history; the team has now won four straight NBSBL titles and five of the league’s last six championships. The team will return to the national stage next summer, travelling to Edmonton, Alberta, from August 26–29, 2027, where it will once again compete for the Canadian Men’s Championship.
Several Islanders were also recognized for their individual performances during the season. Dillon Doucette was named the NBSBL All-Star at third base, while Simon Dubois earned All-Star honours in left field and Nick MacPhail was selected as the league’s All-Star designated hitter. Tanner MacLean was recognized for his work on the mound after posting the league’s lowest ERA. The Islanders’ offensive production was led in part by Dubois, who hit .427 over 34 games, while MacPhail hit .363 over 35 games. MacLean finished the regular season with a 1.70 ERA over 37 innings.

Aidan Campbell
August 2026 – Aidan Campbell delivered a standout performance for Team PEI at the 2026 Legion Youth National Track and Field Championships in Regina, capturing a silver medal in the U16 Boys High Jump with a clearance of 1.88 metres. The podium finish represents a significant step forward for Campbell, who placed seventh in the same event at the 2025 national championships.
Campbell’s performance also marked a historic achievement for Prince Edward Island, as he became the first Athletics PEI athlete to win a medal at the Legion Youth National Championships since 2014. His result highlighted another strong national showing for Island track and field athletes, with Team PEI recording personal bests, provincial records and several strong finishes throughout the championships.
The 2026 championships continued a promising trajectory for Campbell, who had already established himself as one of PEI’s top young high jumpers with a top-10 finish at the 2025 national event. His improvement from seventh place to the national podium in just one year makes the silver medal one of the standout performances of the 2026 Legion Championships for Team PEI.

Team PEI U16 Football
July 2026 – For the first time in history, a three-peat championship has been claimed at the U16 Atlantic Bowl, and the title belongs to PEI. In their semi-final game on July 9, the team defeated Team New Brunswick in a blowout 64-0 victory. During the gold medal game on July 12, PEI came back from a rusty first quarter to defeat Team Nova Scotia with a final score of 48-20 to capture the championship.

Hunter Burke
June 2026 – Hunter Burke has etched his name into Prince Edward Island golf history after becoming the first Island golfer ever to qualify for the prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
Burke secured his place at the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship by finishing solo third among a field of 84 golfers at a sectional qualifier held at Beaver Meadows Golf Club in Phoenix, New York. Battling rainy conditions, he shot a 1-over-par round to claim one of only four qualifying spots available. The championship will be held this July at Saucon Valley Country Club in Pennsylvania and features many of the world’s top junior golfers.
The historic qualification capped off an outstanding month for Burke, who also fired a remarkable 64 to win a PEI Junior Tour event at Belvedere Golf Club on June 14, finishing just one stroke shy of the course record. Earlier in June, Burke teamed up with Jason Poley to capture the Avondale Open, a two-person best-ball men’s amateur championship.

Martin Sobey
May 2026 – Sobey opened his month in Chengdu, China, where he placed 13th in the World Triathlon Cup individual men’s race, navigating a deep international field in a fast-paced Olympic-distance competition. He returned to action the very next day in the mixed relay event, where he delivered a strong anchor-leg performance to help Canada secure a bronze medal, finishing in a tightly contested battle for the final podium position against the United States in 1:22:53.
Building on that momentum, Sobey then travelled to Japan for the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) in Yokohama, where he delivered a career-best performance at the elite level. He finished 7th overall in 1:40:31, marking his first-ever top-10 finish on the WTCS circuit. The result highlighted his growing strength on the run and ability to move through elite international fields, climbing from well back in the swim to finish among the world’s best.

Alexsa Matheson
April 2026 – Alexsa Matheson delivered an outstanding month of competition, representing both the Island Wrestling Academy and the Rikidokan Judo Club. Competing at the Eastern Canadian Judo Championships in Edmundston, NB, Matheson posted a perfect 2-0 record to capture a gold medal. She carried that momentum into the Canadian Wrestling Championships in Grande Prairie, AB, where she secured a pair of podium finishes. Matheson claimed gold in the U19 61kg Greco-Roman division and added a bronze medal in the U19 61kg freestyle category, capping off an impressive month of multi-discipline performances.
