50 Years of Sport PEI Awards – Richard Little
The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take a look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.
Richard Little – 1990 – Hockey
Richard Little won the Lieutenant Governor’s award in 1990 for his play with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers ice hockey team. Little led the Panthers to a 14-11-1 record in the AUS which was enough to secure first place in the MacAdam Division with 29 points. Little also was able to help the Panthers to capture their 4th Atlantic University Sport title, it is also the last time the Panthers have won the award. During the same season, Little would also be named to the AUS All Star team. In 1990 Richard was named UPEI Alumni Association Outstanding Male Athlete, while he was also selected to be a part of Team Canada for the USA Cup Hockey Tournament.
