50 Years of Sport PEI Awards – Matthieu D’Amour
The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take time this year to look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.
Matthieu D’Amour – Gymnastics – 2009
Matthieu won the Lieutenant Governor’s award for the 2009 season as PEI’s top athlete while competing in the junior category. Matt was named to the Gymnastics Canada Junior National team and received carded status, the athlete first ever from PEI to make that team. Matt finished top six in the all-around category at the prestigious Elite Canada event in Gatineau, finished top ten in the all-around at the National Championships. At the Wase Cup International event, Matt stepped up to compete in the Senior division, placing third overall while winning gold in the vault and rings events.
