50 Years of Sport PEI Awards – Jill Taylor
The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take a look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.
Jill Taylor – Swimming – 1976
Jill Taylor won the Lieutenant Governor’s award in 1976 for her accomplishments in the sport of Swimming. Jill was a member of Acadia University’s Conference championship Swimming team where she established Acadia swimming records in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and the 500 and 800 freestyle events. Jill would also break the 200m backstroke record at the 1976 CIAU Nationals. For her performances, Taylor was named Acadia’s Outstanding Female Athlete performer.
Jill would go on to claim several Conference and National championships and break even more records during her time at Acadia. Taylor would continue to be involved in swimming after graduation, as a coach and competing as a Masters swimmer. Jill was inducted into the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame in 1994.
