50 Years of Sport PEI Awards – Ian ‘Tex’ MacDonald
The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take a look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.
Ian ‘Tex’ MacDonald – Softball – 1977
Ian MacDonald won the Lieutenant Governor’s award in 1977 for his accomplishments in the sport of Softball. ‘Tex’ won the batting crown at the Canadian Senior Men’s Softball Championships and was named as an all-star left fielder.
MacDonald would go on to coach a number of teams over the years in Softball, Baseball, and Football. He was inducted into the PEI Football Hall of Fame and the PEI Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
