August 1st – Jordan Spence signs two-year extension with National Hockey League’s Los Angeles Kings.
August 4th – U15 PEIFC Girls team wins bronze at Canada Youth Cup in Halifax, NS.
August 4th – Zander O’Meara wins Supersprint Duathlon & Supersprint Triathlon events, Rob Binns wins Sprint Duathlon (Non Draft) event, Arend Teraa wins Standard Aquabike event, and Jesse Shields wins Standard Duathlon event at Subaru of Charlottetown TriLobster Triathlon 2024.
August 4th – U13AA Western Attack softball win Bear Claw Classic in Saint John, NB.
August 4th – U19W Team Atlantic finish second at Canadian Rugby Championships in Nova Scotia with PEI athletes Allana Mabey, Jennay Spence, Sahara MacLean, and Sofia Atkins.
August 4th – Mike Richards officiates as plate umpire for 22U Baseball Canada National Championship Gold Medal in Dartmouth, NS
August 5th – Kyle Baillie wins Major League Rugby championships with New England Free Jacks.
August 5th – U15 PEIFC Boys team and U17 PEIFC Girls team win gold at Canada Youth Cup in Halifax, NS.
August 5th – Sophia Allen wins silver medal in 84-plus-kg Special Olympics category of International Powerlifting Federation – North American Powerlifting Federation championships in Scottsdale, Az.
August 7th – Keegan Crawford wins gold in U18 Men’s Compound Archery at the 2024 Canadian Field Championships in Fredericton
August 9th – Hannah Taylor finishes 5th in the 57kg freestyle category at Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games; first PEI athlete to compete at Olympic games in wrestling
August 10th – Ellen Dixon finishes tied for 34th at Amateur World Disc Golf Championships in Michigan.
August 10th – U17 Team PEI finishes 5th at Canada Basketball Nationals; Alex Newson named to All-Canadian team, finished tournament leading in scoring and rebounding
August 11th – Gordie Dwyer, Kevin Elliott and Sean Dwyer win gold medal with Team Canada hockey at Hlinka Gretzky Cup
August 12th – Keaghan Norring becomes first PEI referee to officiate at Box Lacrosse National Championships in Regina.
August 13th – Charleigh MacDougall and Ellie Mullins named to the Tournament 11 All Star team at U16 Field Hockey National Championships in Calgary; Mullins named Tournament MVP.
August 13th – Hannah Taylor (Brock Wrestling) and Lauren Clark (UPEI Soccer) selected to be part of 2024 U SPORTS Female Apprentice Coach Program.
August 14th – UPEI Field Hockey receives approval to compete in Field Hockey Canada U Sports national invitational championship.
August 17th – Carter Monkley (U15M), Noah Lynch (U17M), and Maddison Casford (U17F) named to all-sat team at Box Lacrosse National Championships in Regina.
August 17th – Harvest Festival 25K Road Race celebrates 50 years of competition. Ryan Keliher finishes as top male and Kelly Beaton as top female.
August 19th – Kevin Elliott hired as Head Athletic Therapist by the National Hockey League’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
August 22nd – Gillian Perry (U11F), Levi Jay (U13M), Nathan Joyce (U15M), and Cory Jay (Men’s Elite) finish with silver medals in respective Cross-Country Cycling categories at Crankworx Adrenlaine Festival.
August 23rd – Nick Dolomount (T36th), Curtis Hall (T66th), and Mark Carragher (T68th) make final cut at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championships. Carragher also finishes T21st in Mid-Master category. Brett Shaw (T84th) makes final cut at Men’s Amateur Championship.
August 24th – Jenna Larter finishes 1st overall in the 500m (39.57 sec), 2nd overall in the 1000m (1:19.89) at the 2024 Summer Classic in Calgary to start the speed skating season.
August 25th – Multiple islanders win medals at National Pickleball Championships including gold medals by Parker Fisher, Kyle Bennington, Jerry MacDonald, Ricky Hood, Kaitlin Moore, Melanie MacDonald, and Suzanna Woods
August 29th – Amy Burk begins goalball competition at Paris Paralympics with win over France; ties record for most Paralympic appearances (5) by a female Canadian athlete.
August 30th – Juliette Bader scores two goals in her debut for UPEI, opening the season with 3-2 win over Memorial University.
