The ADL/Sport PEI awards were presented by Football PEI on April 30th at Murphy’s Community Centre. The winners are an example of the great season of football. Congratulations to all and good luck in the upcoming season.
Administrator of the year
Amanda Purchase
This award could have been spread out over the last couple of tackle football seasons within the Kings County bantam football program. Amanda’s organizational skills and hard work have made the program top notch. She demonstrated this in the past year in Provincial bantam league and within her club with fundraisers game day preparation. She led the team in ordering gear, repairing jerseys, organized food for player’s road trip games, practice schedules, media and game day programs. Rumor has it she even put coach Ross Young’s game plan together. Football PEl is proud to offer the 2015 Admininstrator of the year to a well deserving volunteer, Amanda Purchase, from the Kings County Steelers.
Team of the year
Summerside Bantam Spartans
The Summerside Waterwise Bantam Spartans not only had a great championship season by
going undefeated, scoring over 300 points on offense, and only allowing 20 points in total which may seem great. However, really the best thing about this team is that there were no egos or individuals and everyone played together which is very rare these days. This team was committed from day one of training camp and to do that with hard work, a positive attitude, and team first attitude, it shows what a group of young men can accomplish. “It’s a testament to the hard work that they’ve put in and their ability. They played very well as a unit. They are a very unselfish group, one of the nicest groups of kids I’ve ever worked with.” said their coaches.
What more can be said about the bantam football team from Summerside. These kids have played atom football, flag football and in all aspects of those programs they just win! This past season this team put up another unbeaten record and record breaking scores in the Bantam league. Head coach John Turner and his staff deserve a lot of credit for the time and effort for football in Summerside. Football PEl is proud to present the team of the year to Summerside Bantam Spartans.
Coach of the year
Marc Reid
Going out on the top of his game in his coaching craft is what Marc Reid has done. A decade of coaching the Summerside Clippers came to an end with his Potato Bowl championship team. Marc’s hard working attitude rubbed off on his team for years, and it showed this past fall with a dominating season from start to finish. One of the good guys in the Football PEl tackle league, Marc’s a deserving winner of the Coach of the year in 2015.
Junior Player of the year
Aiden O’Rourke
After a great year in the defensive line trenches for the Cornwall Timberwolves, Aiden O’Rourke became a real challenge for offensive lines and an unfriendly sight for scrambling quarterbacks. He put up some strong numbers as he had 14 sacks, 20 tackles for a loss 6 fumble recoveries last season. He also played center on the a-line which was helpful for their run game and played on the team’s special teams as well. Basically, this fine young player never left the field. Aiden’s season was his third and final the bantam league. He spent two years as well in the Football PEl flag football league in the past. Football PEl is proud to offer Jr Player of the year to Aiden O’Rourke.
Senior Player of the Year
Jayden Reid
After several years of flag football, bantam and now varsity tackle age football Summerside Clippers Quarter back career has come to an end. A tremendous athlete Jayden Reid’s quarterback role in the amateur football PEl ranks took notice awhile ago. It was capped this season by leading his undefeated Summerside Clippers to impressive Potato Bowl win and being named the Matt Dunigan offensive player of the game. He threw for several touchdowns in the big game, while scrambling around with his legs to make other great plays. Reid was also a 3 time winner of the Papa John’s player of the game award this past season in the varsity league to add to his fine season. Football PEl is proud to present the Senior player of the year Jayden Reid.
