Island athletes, coaches, and teams continued to make headlines in June 2026 with outstanding performances and achievements across the provincial, national, and international sport scene.
On the coaching front, Menno Arendz received national recognition after being named Biathlon Canada’s Richard Boruta Male Coach of the Year, honouring his dedication and success in developing athletes.

In university hockey, Sarah MacEachern announced her transfer from Cornell University to the University of New Brunswick to return to the Maritimes, continuing her U SPORTS career with the Reds.

The QMJHL Entry Draft featured two Prince Edward Island standouts as Sean Dwyer was selected by the Moncton Wildcats (115th overall) and Riley Cormier was chosen by the Gatineau Olympiques (188th overall).

Wheelchair basketball athletes Mara Duncan and Juliet Trainor, along with coach Noelle Duncan, represented Team New Brunswick at the Wheelchair Basketball Canada Junior National Championships, showcasing Island talent on the national stage.

On the soccer pitch, the PEI FC U15 Boys and U17 Girls teams earned spots in the Maritime Championship finals, where they will compete for regional titles in August.

Team PEI’s U13 lacrosse squad captured the silver medal at the Ron Huckla Memorial Tournament in Fredericton, continuing the province’s strong upcoming in the sport.

The 1993 Canada Games Men’s Softball Team was announced as an inductee into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing one of the province’s most accomplished softball teams.

Wrestler Vanessa Keefe earned a place on Team Canada’s roster for the U23 Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru.

In judo, Alexsa Matheson claimed a gold medal in the U18 63 kg division at the Numa Cup, adding another impressive result to her growing résumé.

On the softball diamond, the U15 Western Attack won the U15AA Cole Harbour Comets Classic tournament in Nova Scotia.

The Island celebrated national success in basketball as Alex Newson earned a silver medal with Canada’s U18 Women’s National Team at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup in Irapuato, Mexico.

Charlottetown Islanders forward Marcus Kearsey received one of junior hockey’s highest honours after being named the CHL Humanitarian of the Year. Kearsey was recognized for his exceptional commitment to community service through initiatives including blood drives, school visits, and KidSport fundraising.

At the Athletics Canada National Championships in Ottawa, Lilly MacVicar makes a statement by running the second-fastest U20 Atlantic Canadian female times ever in the 200m (24.84) and 400m (55.75) events.

On a baseball diamond in Summerside, the 13U AAA Capital District Islanders claim gold at the SABA Baseball Tournament, capping off another successful weekend for Baseball PEI.

Being recognized for her standout work for parasports across the Island, Lynn Stewart was announced as an inductee into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame.

Upcoming star in the world of golf Hunter Burke has history by becoming the first Island golfer ever to qualify for the prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur Championship after earning one of four qualifying spots at a sectional qualifier in New York.

Charlottetown Islanders standout and PEI native Ross Campbell commits to the University of Maine Black Bears hockey program.

On the mats of the 2026 Canadian U23 Wrestling Championships held at Canada Games Park in St. Catharines, Ontario, Vanessa Keefe once again makes headlines in June as she wins silver in the women’s 68 kg category.
