Sport PEI Athlete Health and Performance program is hosting ‘Parent Like a Champ’ as a virtual session Tuesday, February 3 – 7:30-9:00 pm.

The goal is to give parents of developing athletes some insight on different topics that can affect the pathway for athletes and parents. We want to help develop general awareness and provide participants with takeaway resources.

Topics include:

– The decision to become a competitive athlete, the pathway ahead
– The role of physical testing in athlete development
– Fueling the Developing Athlete
– The Challenges of Parenting a Competitive Athlete
– What it requires to train physically like a competitive Athlete
– Q & A

Guests Speakers:

Randy Goodman – Clinical Specialist in Sports Physiotherapy – Randy is one of the premier Sport Physiotherapists in Canada. He has provided care and advice for some of the best athletes in the world. He has worked for multiple international sporting events, including World Championships, the Pan Am Games, and the Olympics.

Spencer House – He holds degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and Brock University, and is currently completing graduate studies in High Performance Coaching and an Advanced Coaching Diploma. Spencer is  NCCP Performance Coach certified in jumps and sprints/hurdles, he has coached at the club, university, and provincial levels, working with national team athletes along the way.  He was at the head coach at Brock University and served as Recruiting Lead and Assistant Coach at the University of Saskatchewan.
Nancy Fong – Sports Dietician – Nancy is a Registered Dietitian, Consulting Sport & Performance Dietitian, and is the owner of Maximum Performance & Nutrition and Sport Nutrition Academy. Graduate in sport nutrition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission (2005).
Meagan Ferguson – CSPA Mental Performance Consultant (Canadian Sport Psychology Association) – Meagan works with teams, athletes and coaches in a variety of sports and competition levels. She is also certified in Mental Health First Aid, Mindfulness Facilitation for Athletic Performance and a learning facilitator for the NCCP.
Morgan Campbell – Athlete Performance Coach with experience across professional hockey, Olympic pathway programs, varsity athletics, and community sport. His experience includes providing performance and sport science support to athletes in professional hockey, elite rugby, and high-performance sport pathways across Canada and the United States.
