50 Years of Sport PEI Awards – Patrick Griffin

LtGovernor Award - patrick griffin

The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take a look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.

Patrick Griffin – Wheelchair Basketball – 1984
Patrick Griffin won the Lieutenant Governor’s award in 1984 for his accomplishments in wheelchair basketball. Griffin became the first PEI para-athlete to be named to the Canadian Wheelchair basketball team. Patrick competed at the World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Stoke, England, playing in all but one of their 7 games.
