The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take a look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.
Josh Ballem – Swimming – 1996
Josh won the Lieutenant Governor’s award in 1996 while swimming with the University of New Brunswick. Josh helped UNB to win the AUAA (now AUS) title and competed well at the National Championships, placing 6th in the 50m fly. Ballem would also represent PEI well at the 1997 Canada Games placing as high as 4th in the 50m free and making it to 2 other A finals. Josh would go on to win several CIAU (U Sports) medals in his career highlighted by his time at UNB and University of Calgary.
