Mark Arendz claims 13th & 14th career Paralympic medals in Milano Cortina

PEI’s most decorated athlete Mark Arendz competes in his fifth career Paralympic games in the para-biathlon and para cross-country ski events. He entered these Games with 12 career Paralympic medals.

 

March 8 – Mark Arendz claimed silver in the standing individual biathlon at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games on Sunday, March 8 at the Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Arendz, the Para nordic skiing legend, finished the 12.5km race in 30 minutes 52.5 seconds just after China’s Jiayun Cai who won gold for the second time in two days. Marco Maier earned bronze for Germany.

The silver is Arendz’s 13th Paralympic medal and Canada’s sixth medal at the 2026 Winter Games.

Mark Arendz is a Hartsville, Prince Edward Island Para nordic athlete competing in his fifth Paralympic Games. He is one of Canada’s most decorated Paralympic athletes.

March 11 – On the men’s side, Arendz, from Hartsville, P.E.I., earned his 14th career medal clocking third behind Belarus’ Raman Svirydzenka and France’s Karl Tabouret, silver and gold medalists respectively.

“I think that I was just taking a lot of experience, a lot of the endurance races of the biathlon and yesterday’s sprint,” said Arendz, at his fifth Paralympics. “I think there was a lot of confidence in just being about to move quickly, get the classic legs under me. I woke up this morning knowing I could bring those two together and this could be a good chance for me.”

Arendz won his first medal here on Sunday with silver in the men’s individual standing biathlon.
