What is Athletic Fitness Testing and Why is it done?
As sport and exercise professionals we often get asked by parents and athletes why fitness testing is performed and what is it used for? Physical testing has many functions, and is essential for training and developing athletes. We will discuss the reasons to test, as well as some of the common tests implemented in sport development programs.

With the Beijing Olympics almost complete, the focus of media and athletes/coaches to Drug testing has been heightened. There is one place to get information for all of this is Canada, and that is the Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport. Their website is https://cces.ca/. There is also a downloadable App.

Concerning Sale of Smelling Salts on PEI
It has recently been brought to our attention from parents, as well as a recent CBC story, that smelling salts (ammonia inhalants) are being sold in vending machines at arenas, and available for sale in other locations on PEI. This is a concern that parents should be aware of. Smelling salts or Ammonia Inhalants were initially designed for waking up someone who fainted or had a concussion, back in the 70’s and 80’s.
