May 2nd – Islanders Thatcher Hughes, Hudson Bradley, and Ross Martin (General Manager) win the Maritime Junior Hockey League title with the Miramichi Timberwolves. Miramichi will represent the MHL at the Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario.

May 3rd – Alysha Corrigan scores a try for Team Canada in a 28-7 win over Spain at the HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s.

May 4thDon MacAdam coaches Hungary’s Men’s National Hockey team to the IIHF Division 1A title. Hungary has been promoted to next year’s World Championships, hosted in Sweden.

May 5thSarah Lewis commits to Framingham State University (NCAA III) to play hockey and lacrosse, becoming the first PEI athlete to play NCAA lacrosse.

May 5thGardiner MacDougall and Team Canada wins gold at the U18 World Hockey Championships in Espoo, Finland. MacDougall finishes the 2023-24 season with an undefeated record, with both the UNB Reds and Team Canada.

May 5th – Alysha Corrigan scores a try for Team Canada in a 17-5 win over Great Britain at the HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s. Canada finishes in 7th place at the event.

May 5th14U Inferno Volleyball Club Boys team wins Bronze medal at Club Nationals in Fredericton, NB.

May 10th – Members of the Charlottetown Naiads competed at the 2024 Canadian Junior Championships in Artistic Swimming. Sara MacDonald, Adrienne Scales, and Ella Storey represented the club. 

May 11thMartin Sobey finished in 20th place (1:43:39) at the World Triathlon Championship Series in Yokohama, Japan.

May 12thGrant Boswall and Tyler Jay win gold as members of Team Canada support staff at the World Para Ice Hockey Championship.

May 12thKeegan Crawford places in the top 8 at the Youth Pan Am Archery Championship, losing in a quarterfinal match to the eventual gold medalist.

May 13thRia Johnston (travel roster) and Paige MacLean (non-travel reserve) have been named to Rugby Canada’s U20 National team. Both athletes will attend a team training camp in Ottawa in early July. Team Canada will travel to Wales until the end of July and play games against Wales, Great Britain and the United States.

May 14thGardiner MacDougall retires from the UNB Reds men’s hockey team. MacDougall finished his time with the Reds coaching for 24 seasons, recording 735 wins, 12 AUS titles and 9 University Cup titles.

May 17thNicolas Desroche (Referee in Chief), Robert St. Pierre (Officials Evaluator), and Jake Henderson (Referee) represent PEI at Football Canada Elite Flag Nationals in Kingston, Ontario.

May 19thU15 Team PEI wins Breaker Cup in Musquodoboit Harbour, NS; first championship won by a PEI lacrosse team

May 19th – Team PEI U19 Males win bronze at 2024 Football Canada National Elite Flag Championships in Kingston, ON

May 19th – The Table Tennis PEI Men’s team of Todd Gregory, Mark Gregory, Minh Nguyen and Jeff Clow took first place in the Senior Men’s Team event at the Atlantic Table Tennis Championships, held recently in Moncton, New Brunswick. Mark and Todd Gregory teamed up to win Men’s Doubles and Singles in their age categories, over 40 and 21-39 respectively. Jeff Clow also won silver in the 21-39 category.

May 19thZaeem Arif and Eason Wang win the Junior 19 and Under Male Doubles and Kelly Nguyen and Maryum Arif placed second in the Junior 19 and Under Female Division at the Atlantic Table Tennis Championships.

May 24th Brooke MacArthur, Keely MacGrath, and Hikaru Wells win bronze medals at the 2024 Judo Canada Open National Championships.

May 25thMartin Sobey finished 34th with a time of 1:45:12 at the World Triathlon Championship series in Cagliari, Italy.

May 25thJennifer Nelson, from Kensington Skating Club was this year’s Skate Canada Prince Edward Island National Volunteer Award of Excellence winner. Cindy Stavert, from Kensington Skating Club, was this year’s Skate Canada National Star Pathway Coach Award winner.

May 26thSandra Cottreau finished as the top female runner and 4th overall at the Calgary Ultra race (60km). Sandra completed the race in 4:56:29.

May 26th – The U17 Whitecaps softball team went a perfect 5-0 in weekend 1 of the Atlantic Championship Series in Dartmouth Nova Scotia.

May 26th – PEI athletes compete well at the 2024 Atlantic Karate Championships. Gold medalists from the event were:

May 27thLindsey Corkum, Carson Gray, Kali MacKinnon, Dominik Ryan & Katelyn Hoskins attend Volleyball Canada Youth Nationals in Edmonton.

May 28th – PEI Soccer officials, Brandon Lund and Jarrod MacAdam attended the Canada Soccer course for officials in Montreal.

May 30thJenna Larter is named to the 2024/25 Speed Skating Canada NextGen Long track team.
