Taking That Next Step

 

Athletes from across PEI, withgoals of becoming their best, were invited to Sport PEI’s “Future Elites”Legacy Performance Event last Friday.

Charlottetown, PE – On Friday,September 23rd, Sport PEI hosted its “Future Elites” LegacyPerformance Event at Synergy Fitness & Nutrition, and UPEI. With over 25 youth athletes from across theprovince, all looking to take their game to the next level, the goal was toprovide them with different pathways to achieve success in their respectivesports.

The day consisted of informational sessions with Mental Trainer TaraCostello, Nutritionist Bethany Vessey and a Q&A skype with two-timeOlympian Jared Connaughton. There wasphysical testing done, in accordance with Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic, and awork out with Personal Trainer Kris MacPhee. This exposure, to such vital parts of becoming elite athletes, providesthem with not only an introduction to the information, but the professionalsneeded to aid in the process.

During his skype Q&A, Jared Connaughton talked about some of theconstraints in having big dreams and living in a small province. He assured the athletes this was not to beused as an excuse, but a motivator to work harder, and be better. Participating in events like last Friday’s,is a step in the right direction.
