Larter Competing at Canadian Junior Championships
November 28th, 2019, Charlottetown – P.E.I. speed skater Jenna Larter is competing at the Canadian Junior Short Track Championships in Calgary this weekend.
Larter will be the first Islander to compete in the Championships since Charlottetown’s Carly Connell earned a berth in 2014. The Brookfield native qualified for the event based on her results at the Short Track Canada Cup held in Sherbrooke, Que. earlier this season.
The championships feature the country’s top 32 junior-aged skaters per gender and will crown a national junior champion in each distance, as well as an overall champion. The results are also used to select Canada’s team for the 2020 World Junior Championships and for the 2020 Youth Olympic Games.
The 17-year-old Islander, now training in Calgary, has been busy re-writing P.E.I.’s short track record books already this season. Larter improved on her own fastest-ever P.E.I. female status in the short-track 500-metres in Sherbrooke, after claiming the same title in the short track 1,500-metres in Calgary in September.
Racing gets underway at the Olympic Oval in Calgary on Friday with the 1,500-metre event, followed by the 500-metre on Saturday and 1000-metre racing on Sunday.
