Kris Sinclair – National Coaches Week
We are so excited to celebrate National Coaches Week! We have received so many coaching nominations and can’t wait to share them with you. Follow along to see why these coaches are so great!
Kris Sinclair – Sherwood Rangers U11 boys white Team 3
What is an important skill that this coach has that makes them a great coach?
The team had a lot of success this season. But the most impressive part is that every kid on Kris’s team improved noticeably this season from the least skilled to the most skilled. They had success not just by relying on the higher skilled players but because Kris taught the kids to work and play as a team. Everyone was included in the play at all times.
What lesson(s) has this coach instilled in you/athletes/or others?
Hard work. Kris gave out the hard hat award each game to reward kids for their effort rather than just skill level. All players won the award at some point and I suspect that he used it as a confidence boost to some kids at different times.
Pick 3 words that describes this coach. Explain why you chose each word.
Knowledgeable- understands how the game is played and what is important to work on at this age group, Positive- he was encouraging to all players all the time.
Write a memory or story about this coach, that impressed you.
My favourite thing about Kris as a coach was his tendency to yell ‘unlucky’ any time a player blundered during the game. Shot missed the net by 10 feet? Unlucky. Made a challenge for the ball and the other kid danced around you? Unlucky. Goalie misses an easy save? Unlucky. He never made a kid feels bad for a bad play and acknowledged every kid with a high five or shoulder tap every time they left the field. I saw him embody the True Sport principles throughout the season.
Thank you for all that you do! Make sure to say ‘Thanks Coach’ to a special coach in your life!
