Position:  Executive Director

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: $28.25/hour +

(Negotiated wage is dependent on credentials and experience)

 

Position Overview:

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and day to day financial management of the organization. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to achieve the organization’s mission and vision, ensuring effective delivery of programs and services for individuals with a disability and their families.

ParaSport and Recreation PEI is a charitable organization that provides recreation and sport programs and events for individuals with a physical disability on PEI.  It is the provincial governing body for various Paralympic sports including wheelchair basketball, para ice hockey, wheelchair rugby, and boccia.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Board of Directors.
  • Coordinates, supervises and evaluates all direct delivery programs and events.
  • Conducts research on current trends in the sport and recreation industry as well as changing demographics to identify programming gaps and needs within the province.
  • Manages inventory control for all ParaSport and Recreation equipment, and secures funding for equipment repairs and the purchase of new equipment as needed.
  • Participates in organization’s budget preparation and monitors revenues and expenditures to maintain a balanced budget.
  • Identify and secure funding through grants, donations, sponsorships, fundraisers and partnerships to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Participates in the recruitment, hiring and training of fundraising campaign staff and program staff.
  • Provides direct supervision and guidance to the Program Coordinator.
  • Provides support to Annual Fundraising Campaign Supervisor. Duties can vary depending on the needs of the campaign.
  • Oversee volunteer management, including recruitment, training, and recognition.
  • Conduct regular reviews of organization’s strategic plan, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulations and best practices. Make recommendations for change/updates to the Board of Directors.
  • Advocate for parasport at the governmental and community levels, working to increase awareness, resources, and support.
  • Strengthen existing partnerships and develop new partnerships with corporate community, provincial sport organizations, and local not for profit organizations to enhance programs and services, increase resource availability, and create a broader network of support for members.
  • Develop and manage all essential tools to promote awareness of the programs and services offered by ParaSport and Recreation PEI, including website, social media platforms, newsletters, program brochures, presentations, and more.
  • Coordinate and/or serve on host committees for National and International parasport events that are hosted on PEI.
  • Attend Provincial and National meetings on behalf of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Board Chair to coordinate and prepare documents for Board of Directors and Membership meetings.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

  • A post secondary degree or diploma in Sport and Recreation/Leisure Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience working with volunteer organizations that deliver recreation related programs or direct delivery programs.
  • Strong administrative and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must have and maintain a valid PEI Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
