International Women’s Day – Alysha Corrigan

Friday, March 8th is International Women’s Day and to celebrate, Sport PEI would like to recognize some of the women who are actively representing PEI as athletes! We asked them how they feel about being a leader for young female athletes on the island and what message they’d like to share.

A two-time Senior Female Athlete of the Year, Charlottetown’s Alysha Corrigan has proudly represented PEI competing for Team Canada Rugby 7’s squad since 2018.

Coming off a thrilling third-place finish on home soil at HSBC SVNS Vancouver in February, Alysha and Team Canada took fourth place in Los Angeles last weekend with three more stops on the tour in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Madrid.

Alysha’s advice to young female athletes is to value determination and good support.

“Set goals and put your head down to achieve them,” says the 27-year-old. “Don’t take no for an answer and surround yourself with people who fill your cup up.

“Things won’t always go your way, but it’s how hard you are willing to work to achieve the goals you set.”

Alysha helped Canada qualify for the Paris Olympics last summer and awaits the announcement of an official Team Canada Olympic roster while competing with the team in the HSBC SVNS season through June.
