Lastnight marked the inaugural “Cooking For KidSport” fundraising event at theCulinary Institute of Canada at Holland College. It was a night full of food, fun, andentertainment. PEI’s top five sportorganizations went head to head in a “cook off” all in support ofKidSport.
Comedian Patrick Ledwell played host and kept the night full of laughter, whileattendees dined a five course meal, watched the cook off and participated in araffle that included flights from WestJet, signed Hockey Canada gear and manyothers. The star of the show was KidSportrecipient Jessica Shepard, who told her story about how KidSport made itpossible for her to compete in wrestling from age 11 to 18. The audience took note of such a story, andwhen the dollars were totaled, were able to raise $16,000 for KidSport PEI bythe end of the evening.
The UPEI panthers were eventually crowned “Cooking For KidSport” champions, after performances by Bruce Donaldson in the smoothie challenge and ErikaMiller in the logo re-creation challenge, where she showed some artistic skillby drawing the panther logo with icing on a cookie!
The event was a huge success, and KidSport PEI cannot thank the people involvedenough for their contributions. It isestimated the funds raised will help over 50 Island children participate in sport, who otherwise, would have been faced with a financial barrier.
