Powerlifters Shine at National Championships
The
Canadian Powerlifting Union held its National Powerlifting and Bench Press
Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba, March 3-7. Four female lifters took to the
platform and represented the Island well.
Rachel
Mayaleh and Breanne Burgoyne both competed in the Classic, Junior 72kg class.
The pair were each successful on all nine lifts, a great achievement for the
two, who qualified for the meet by competing in the Eastern Canadian
Championships last fall. Mayaleh had a 147.5kg squat, 70kg bench, 162.5kg
deadlift and a 380kg total. Burgoyne had a 125kg squat, 70kg bench, 152.5kg
deadlift and a 347.5kg total.
Jeri
Munro competed in the Classic, Master 1, 72kg class. Her 130kg squat, 70kg
bench and 162.5kg deadlift earned her a 362.5kg total and a spot on the podium.
Munro finished her day with a silver medal.
Heather Ayles competed in Master 1, 57kg class, in both Classic and Equipped divisions. Her classic results were a 120kg squat, 72.5kg bench, 140kg deadlift and a 332.5kg total. Her equipped performance included a 150kg squat, 85kg bench and 155kg deadlift for a 390kg total. This put Ayles on top of the podium with the gold medal.
