50 Years of Sport PEI Awards – Jarrod Ballem
The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take time this year to look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.
Jarrod Ballem – Swimming – 2007
Jarrod won the Lieutenant Governor’s award after his 2007 season that saw him compete at several FINA (now World Aquatics) events and the Pan-Am Games in Rio de Janeiro. A long-distance swimming specialist, Jarrod finished top twenty at the World Championships in Melbourne in the 5km swim, top 30 at a World Cup event in Spain in the 10km, and top twenty at another World Cup event in the UK in the 10km. At the Pan Am games, Jarrod capped off a great season with an 8th overall finish in the 10km swim.
