50 Years of Sport PEI Awards – Contessa Scott
The 2023 Sport PEI awards will be our 50th edition! To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to take time this year to look back at those who have received the Lieutenant Governor’s award as PEI’s top athlete of the year.
Contessa Scott – Goalball – 2004
Contessa won the Lieutenant Governor’s award for the 2004 season after winning her second Paralympic Goalball gold medal at the 2004 Paralympic games in Athens, Greece. Having played with the Canadian National team since 1999, and winning gold in 2000, Contessa had an incredible run during the 2004 games. Team Canada finished the preliminary round with an 7-0 record, a plus-29 goal differential, and the number 1 seed heading into the semi-finals. Canada defeated Finland 4-2 in the semis and won the gold medal with a 3-1 score versus the US.
