2024 Sport PEI Scholarship recipients

2024 scholarships winners

Sport PEI is pleased to award three student-athlete scholarships valued at $1000. The criteria used to select the recipients includes achievements in sport, the classroom and their communities. This year, the scholarships were made possible thanks to sponsorships from the Connolly Group, DALMAC, and Charlottetown Physiotherapy.

The 2024 Sport PEI Scholarships winners are Juliette Bader (Colonel Gray), Dayna Dingwell (Souris Regional), and Deirdre Studer (Three Oaks). Each of these student-athletes have excelled in the classroom, their sport and are leaders in their community.

Juliette Bader, a Colonel Gray graduate, will be studying Biology at UPEI this fall and plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in Pediatrics, while playing for the UPEI Panthers Soccer team.

Juliette has competed at a high level in several sports including soccer, field hockey, and cross country. As the youngest member on Team PEI’s 2022 Canada Games women’s soccer team, Juliette helped the team to a best ever 7th place finish. Juliette has also had successes in field hockey, helping Colonel Gray to their first field hockey banner win in 50 years and being named MVP in the process. On top of an already busy schedule, Juliette was also Colonel Gray Student Council President, volunteered at the Mount long term care facility, and coaches a youth soccer team.

Dayna Dingwell, a Souris Regional graduate, will be studying Nursing at UPEI with intentions to attend medical school and become a sports medicine physician.

Dayna is a multi-sport athlete who participates in ringette, soccer, and track and field. The sport of ringette is where Dayna has had a lot of success. As a member of the 2023 Canada Games ringette team, despite being one of the youngest players on the team, Dayna was a trusted defender. The team had a best ever placing of 4th. Dayna is now aiming to play for the Canadian National team, and continuing to play for the Atlantic Attack in the National Ringette League. As a strong contributor to her community and school, Dayna is working as the yearbook editor and coaching a youth soccer team.

Deirdre Studer, a Three Oaks Senior High graduate, will be pursuing a Kinesiology degree this fall at UPEI, with plans to pursue a career working with athletes, while playing for the UPEI women’s rugby team.

Deirdre has played a variety of sports, including rugby, wrestling, and field hockey. Last season, Deirdre helped the Three Oaks AAA women’s team win the PEISAA gold medal and captained Team PEI at the Atlantic Rugby Championships. Deirdre is also a talented wrestler, winning gold medals at both the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Senior Women’s Opens. On top of her sporting and academic commitments, Deirdre also spends time volunteering at the Prince County Hospital, the Prince County Hospital Youth Board, and the Three Oaks Special Olympics fun day program.

Congratulations to these three outstanding recipients of the 2024 Sport PEI Scholarships, we know they will all do great things and the future is very bright for each one of these student-athletes!
