2023 Paul Trainor Scholarship recipients
Sport PEI is pleased to award two student-athlete scholarships valued at $1000 each. These awards are in memory of Paul Trainor, and have been made possible by his family. Paul Trainor was a graduate of Colonel Gray High School, the University of Prince Edward Island, Saint Mary’s University and the Atlantic Police Academy at Holland College.
Paul loved serving as a police officer and was particularly proud of his security work with the United Nations Service in Sierra Leone and the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Through Paul’s rich and rewarding life, he developed many exceptional relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. Loyalty, integrity, honour and friendships were his values. Paul was recognized for significant volunteer work, a lifelong passion for soccer, and his newly acquired appreciation for speed skating. Paul left behind a legacy of dedication and commitment to the PEI soccer community.
The 2023 Paul Trainor Memorial Scholarship recipients are Owen Connolly (Bluefield) and Trinity Somers (Kinkora). Each student-athlete represents Paul Trainor’s values of loyalty, integrity, honour, friendship, and a love of sport.
Trinity Somers, a Kinkora graduate, will be studying at Holland College this fall, in the Human Services program. Trinity is a multi-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, hockey, soccer and badminton. To give back to her community, Trinity is a member of the Kinkora Relay for Life committee and coaching minor hockey.
Owen Connolly, a Bluefield graduate, will be studying at Holland College this fall, in the Kinesiology program. Owen is a multi-sport athlete, who competes in rugby, hockey, and soccer. After suffering a serious injury in the fall, Owen had a long stay in the hospital. Thanks to the great care he received, Owen would like to pursue a career in the medical field to help others recovering from injury.
Congratulations to both of the recipients of the 2023 Paul Trainor Memorial Scholarships, we wish them the best on 2023 and beyond!
