2019 Sport PEI Awards Recognize Sporting Accomplishments
Sport PEI hosted the 46th Annual Amateur Sport Awards on Wednesday February 19 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall. The major award winner of the night was Charlottetown’s Brett Gallant who took home the silver medal at the 2019 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. Gallant won the Canadian National Mixed Doubles Championship with teammate Jocelyn Peterman and finished 4th in the Brier with Team Gushue. For his accomplishments, Brett was honored as the Cox & Palmer Senior Male Athlete of the Year and Lieutenant Governor Award winner. Accepting the awards on his behalf was his mother, Kathie.
CBC Team of the Year, the PEI U16 Wave had a year to remember. Winning a silver medal at the Canadian Ringette Championships, PEI’s first ever medal at the event. The Wave’s success in 2019 was a true testament of the teamwork and dedication from the club’s players and coaching staff.
Ringette PEI were one of the big winners at the ceremony. “It was an exciting evening for all the members of the PEI Ringette Community with our sport winning Team and Event of the Year,” stated Breanne MacInnis, President of Ringette PEI. “Thanks to all the hard work by our local associations and volunteers we were able to host a first-class event in the Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships and our U16 Wave Team won the first ever national ringette medal in more than thirty years of competing in this event.”

Inspiration Award – Tommy MacGuigan, Special Olympics
ADL Masters Athlete of the year – Nancy Ripley, Triathlon, Ironman
PEI Mutual Official of the year – Mandy Li, Taekwondo
