Taking That Next Step

Athletes from across PEI, with goals of becoming their best, were invited to Sport PEI’s "Future Elites” Legacy Performance Event last Friday.

Sept. 29th, 2016

Charlottetown, PE – On Friday, September 23rd, Sport PEI hosted its "Future Elites” Legacy Performance Event at Synergy Fitness & Nutrition, and UPEI. With over 25 youth athletes from across the province, all looking to take their game to the next level, the goal was to provide them with different pathways to achieve success in their respective sports.

The day consisted of informational sessions with Mental Trainer Tara Costello, Nutritionist Bethany Vessey and a Q&A skype with two-time Olympian Jared Connaughton. There was physical testing done, in accordance with Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic, and a work out with Personal Trainer Kris MacPhee. This exposure, to such vital parts of becoming elite athletes, provides them with not only an introduction to the information, but the professionals needed to aid in the process.

During his skype Q&A, Jared Connaughton talked about some of the constraints in having big dreams and living in a small province. He assured the athletes this was not to be used as an excuse, but a motivator to work harder, and be better. Participating in events like last Friday’s, is a step in the right direction.

Stay tuned for announcements on more Legacy Performance Events facilitated by Sport PEI in the near future!
