Introducing Youth To Sport

Charlottetown, PE – This fall, Sport PEI has hosted two Sport Fairs across the province in partnership with the Three Oaks, and Bluefield High, families of schools.  The Sport Fairs themselves, take place in the High School gymnasiums, and bring in close to 100 grade three students.  The following provincial sport bodies were involved in setting up stations, and having the children rotate through, participating in the various sports: Rugby, Basketball, Badminton, Aboriginal Sports Circle, Baseball, Biathlon, Football, and Squash.

Leadership classes from the High Schools, aid in the delivery of the fairs, providing the grade twelve students an opportunity to engage with youth and promote amateur sport.  Each station, is set up and run by the respective provincial sport body, while the leadership students can provide assistance where needed.

The goals of the Sport Fair are to:
-Provide provincial sport bodies an opportunity to introduce their sport to youth who otherwise, may have never had the chance.
-Increase awareness of the different sport options available on PEI for youth
-Generate new interest and participation in amateur sport across PEI
-Provide leadership classes an opportunity to engage with PSO’s and youth

Stay tuned for announcements of future Sport Fairs held in High Schools across the province.  Sports involved will vary at each fair.  For more information, please contact Lynn Boudreau at lboudreau@sportpei.pe.ca.
